Public Outreach

They can’t reach out if they don’t know we exist.
Reach out and let them know we are here.

WHAT IS PUBLIC OUTREACH?

Public outreach service communicates the message of Al-Anon/Alateen to the community through outreach to professionals, to the media, to institutions, and to the general public. Our goals are to attract newcomers to our fellowship and to inform professionals who work with families and friends of alcoholics about the Al-Anon/Alateen program.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED IN OUTREACH?

The opportunities for Public Outreach service are nearly unlimited. Some take almost no time, some involve an ongoing time commitment. Here are a few examples of how other Seattle area members perform Outreach service:

LITERATURE PLACEMENT
Place literature at rehab and detox centers, hospitals, therapist offices, schools, shelters and other public places.

GIVE INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS AT REHAB CENTERS  Team up with another member to share your experience, strength and hope in an introductory meeting to either their clients or staff.

PUT UP FLYERS  Post flyers where people gather such as coffee shops, bulletin boards in grocery stores.

Our list of suggested outreach locations is a good place to start when considering where you might have the opportunity to let those who are suffering from the family disease of alcoholism know that there is hope and help in Al-Anon.

What resources are available for public outreach?

Both WSO and Seattle AIS have resources to support you in your outreach service whether to professionals or to the general public. Below are just a few examples.
